Carl Hester – why do I feed my horses a joint supplement?
Horses tend to start encountering joint problems either because of bad conformation or because we often ask them to do things they weren’t designed to do. Think of the concussive force on the joints of the front legs of a 500kg horse sailing over a jump and landing on its front feet; or my dressage horses that undertake often complicated and difficult movements. Simple lateral movements, such as shoulder-in and half-pass, can cause high joint stress, particularly on the hock.
